Open Access and Your Research - For Faculty In-Person
There are many options for publishing open access, from fully open access journals to hybrid journals to self-archiving a version of your article in an open repository like Ontario Tech’s e-scholar. In this workshop you will use free and Library-subscribed tools like Sherpa RoMEO and Journal Citation Reports to look up journals’ copyright and self-archiving policies, identify high quality journals and subject repositories, and evaluate specific open access journals.
Learning outcomes:
- Determine which version of your research publication can be shared and where (e.g. personal website, ResearchGate, Ontario Tech’s e-scholar, subject repository)
- Look up self-archiving policies of journals and funder open access requirements using Sherpa RoMEO and Sherpa Juliet
- Use Journal Citation Reports, Scimago, and other databases to identify high quality journals in a subject area and to help you in assessing specific journals
